OSHA compliance is not optional—it's the law. But beyond avoiding fines and penalties, compliance represents a baseline commitment to worker safety. Here's what you need to know for 2026.

Recordkeeping Requirements (OSHA 300, 301, 300A)

  • Maintain OSHA 300 Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses
  • Complete OSHA 301 Incident Report for each recordable incident
  • Post OSHA 300A Summary annually (February-April)
  • Submit electronically if you have 250+ employees
  • Retain records for 5 years

Emergency Action Plan (1910.38)

  • Written plan required for most workplaces
  • Include evacuation procedures and routes
  • Designate assembly areas and accounting procedures
  • Train all employees on plan elements
  • Review and update annually

Hazard Communication (1910.1200)

  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals
  • Label all chemical containers properly
  • Train employees on chemical hazards
  • Keep written hazard communication program

Personal Protective Equipment (1910.132)

  • Conduct hazard assessment for PPE needs
  • Provide required PPE at no cost to employees
  • Train on proper PPE use and maintenance
  • Document training and assessments

New for 2026

OSHA has introduced several updates for 2026, including enhanced electronic reporting requirements, updated exposure limits for certain substances, and new emphasis on heat illness prevention in outdoor work environments.

Conclusion

Compliance is ongoing, not a one-time achievement. Regular audits, training, and documentation keep your organization protected and your workers safe.
